Biography

Nolan Armstrong brings 20 years of litigation experience to Signature Resolution’s panel of neutrals. His extensive legal career and commitment to client service enhance his innovative and effective dispute resolution strategies.

In his new role as a neutral with Signature Resolution, Armstrong embodies empathy, patience, and perseverance. His approach to mediation is grounded in the principles that guided his successful defense career: clear communication, trustworthiness and a calm, respectful demeanor. He listens attentively, understands various perspectives and reserves judgment until all information is considered. By leveraging his extensive legal experience and ability to manage diverse personalities, Armstrong is deeply invested in guiding conflicting parties toward mutually acceptable resolutions.

Before joining Signature Resolution, Armstrong was a partner at McNamara, Ambacher Wheeler, Hirsig & Gray, LLP in Pleasant Hill, CA. He managed a wide array of civil matters in both State and Federal courts, including personal injury and real property defense, landlord-tenant litigation, employment defense, professional negligence, and defense of public entities in various tort claims.

Armstrong has extensive trial and arbitration experience throughout Northern California. He also led the defense for a class action against a publicly-traded real estate investment trust (REIT) over allegations of nationwide violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. He has a reputation as an effective advocate but with the cooperative mindset necessary when settlement serves the best interests of litigants. His experience includes handling private mediations for personal injury, landlord-tenant and general liability matters. Since 2020, he has regularly conducted mandatory settlement conferences as a court-appointed settlement conference officer for San Francisco Superior Court.

Armstrong earned his Juris Doctorate with honors from The George Washington University Law School in 2005, where he was recognized as a Thurgood Marshall Scholar. Throughout his career, Armstrong has been actively involved with the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada (ADCNCN), an organization that has significantly shaped his professional journey. He served as the President of ADCNCN in 2023. As a member of its Board of Directors since 2014, he has cultivated a vast network of colleagues who respect his leadership and mediation skills. His other professional memberships include the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel and the Contra Costa County Bar Association. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Contra Costa County Public Law Library.
