“My job isn't to decide who's right. It’s to hear the strengths, the weaknesses, and give both sides a fair, unblemished read of where they stand. My goal is to understand what brings the parties to the table, and help them find a path forward they can accept with confidence.”

Biography

Jim Quinn joins Signature Resolution as one of the most accomplished trial, arbitration, and mediation lawyers in the U.S. He built his reputation trying some of the most consequential commercial disputes of the past several decades, representing sophisticated clients across antitrust, securities, sports, entertainment, and intellectual property litigation at the highest level. That career took shape almost entirely at Weil, Gotshal & Manges, one of the nation’s premier international law firms, where he served for more than two decades as head of the firm’s 350-attorney Litigation Department and as a member of its management committee, while also developing extensive experience as an international arbitrator under ICC and AAA rules. That range gives attorneys navigating high-stakes, high-profile, and international disputes a mediator who has tried and won matters at the same level of complexity they now bring to the table.

Jim’s approach to mediation is grounded in candor and thorough preparation. He offers each side a clear, informed assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of their position, drawing on decades of trial experience to help parties understand how their case is likely to be viewed by a jury. His command of a wide range of industries as varied as entertainment, energy, healthcare, and consumer products allows him to engage credibly with parties regardless of the subject matter of the dispute. Jim mediates with a keen sense of how to communicate with each person in the room, calibrating his approach for a first-time plaintiff as readily as for seasoned in-house counsel. He brings genuine warmth and measured humor to the table, creating an environment where sophisticated parties and their counsel can work productively toward resolution.

Jim became the youngest attorney ever named to Weil’s management committee before going on to lead its Litigation Department, ultimately overseeing 300 to 400 litigators firmwide. Throughout that time, he maintained an active trial practice representing corporate clients in high-stakes antitrust, securities, and intellectual property matters, and built a parallel career in sports law, representing players’ associations across the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS. In 2017, he joined Berg & Androphy as Of Counsel while building his mediation practice, and has since mediated a number of highly confidential, high-stakes disputes involving multinational companies.

Sophisticated parties recognize the difference between an opinion and a verdict-tested judgment. At Signature Resolution, that distinction is what makes Jim’s read on a case invaluable, and what consistently moves his mediations toward lasting resolution.
