Biography

Don Grady joins Signature Resolution with a civil litigation career spanning personal injury, mass tort, medical malpractice, construction, products liability, and institutional abuse. With forty years of civil trial work, a dual-bar practice spanning New York and Massachusetts, and a hard-won fluency in every position in a civil dispute, Don brings a genuine understanding of what it takes to help someone in pain make a clear-eyed business decision about their future. Backed by a depth of expertise rooted in more than a thousand cases mediated and over a hundred tried to verdict, Don helps parties find resolution with directness, genuine warmth, and a tenacity that keeps him engaged long after others would call a session closed.

Don’s approach is grounded in an honest understanding of both sides of the table. He enters every session having read the case thoroughly, and he makes a commitment at the outset that does not waver: the matter will resolve, or the parties will leave with a precise understanding of what resolution requires. He is empathetic and candid in equal measure, creating an environment where parties feel genuinely heard rather than processed, and where difficult conversations can happen without unnecessary friction. His years representing claimants give him an uncommon credibility with plaintiffs navigating the emotional weight of their case alongside its legal reality, and his trial experience gives him a grounded, non-abstract perspective on risk that helps all parties make clear decisions. When cases stall, Don doggedly digs in, treating persistence not as a tactic but as a professional obligation.

Don began his legal career at Julien, Schlesinger & Finz in New York, one of the most prominent plaintiff’s civil trial firms of its era. Over eight years, he tried approximately in excess of 250 cases in state and federal courts across New York, gaining the kind of trial fluency that only comes from relentless courtroom exposure. In 1992, he joined Sheff Law Offices in Boston as partner and lead trial counsel, a role he held for thirty-one years. His practice at Sheff was broad and demanding, encompassing general negligence, construction site claims, medical malpractice, products liability, abuse cases, FELA and Jones Act matters, and multi-district litigation. He appeared in Superior Courts across every Massachusetts county and argued cases pro hac vice throughout New England and beyond. As a result of that breadth of work, Don has seen nearly every configuration of civil dispute, and very little surprises him in the room.

Since joining Commonwealth Mediation and Conciliation, Inc. in 2023, Don has mediated more than one thousand disputes, with particular depth in personal injury, mass tort, institutional abuse, and multi-defendant matters. He has lectured to practicing attorneys, in-house counsel, law students, and members of the public on trial technique, civil practice, and dispute resolution, reflecting a career-long investment in the craft of advocacy and resolution alike.

Now at Signature Resolution, Don offers that same rare blend of discipline, genuine humanity, and businesslike clarity that resolution requires to help parties navigate difficult circumstances and find real relief and closure.
