Mark R. Karsner | Signature Resolution

Mark R. Karsner

Mediator | Arbitrator

"People need somebody they know they can trust. You have to know the basics, truly listen, and let people make their case, then make sure both sides understand what they're really up against. I’ve found this to be the most effective way to help people.”

Biography

Mark Karsner has spent his entire career in personal injury and insurance law, first as a litigator representing plaintiffs and carriers alike, and later as a mediator and arbitrator with over 2,000 disputes heard on his record. That continuity, rooted in a belief that anything he can do for people at the hardest moments in their lives is worth doing, informs Mark’s deep understanding of how these cases are argued, how the parties perceive them, and why the distance between those two things is so often where resolution breaks down. After over three decades at the table, Mark brings a patient, practical approach to moving parties toward lasting solutions.

As a neutral, Mark is deliberate and thorough. He reads case materials carefully before every session and arrives with a working knowledge of the dispute, but he does not impose that knowledge on the process. He keeps the room as open and conducive to honesty as possible, and makes time before the session formally begins to speak with parties as people rather than as positions in a dispute. When plaintiffs need to say their piece, he lets them. For Mark, offering the space to be heard is not just an act of respect; it is often fundamental to uncovering an opportunity to move parties forward. His experience on both sides of personal injury litigation has earned him a clear-eyed view of each party’s blind spots, and he offers candid feedback on arguments and surfaces risks and case realities with thoughtful pragmatism.

Having represented insurance carriers alongside plaintiffs throughout his litigation career, Mark understands how claims departments operate under pressure, how authority limits shape what an adjuster can commit to at the table, and how to structure a conversation that gives both sides a path to yes. He does not consider the session over until they’ve found that path forward.

Mark began his legal career at Wynn & Wynn, one of Massachusetts’ most prominent personal injury firms, where he rose to Chairman of the Litigation Department, a role that sharpened his ability to manage competing interests, keep differing personalities productive, and hold processes together under pressure. In 1995, he founded Karsner & Meehan and began his neutral practice in the same year, running both in parallel for more than two decades before focusing on mediation and arbitration full-time. Mark has taken more than 100 cases to jury verdict, lectured at MCLE on trial technique, insurance law, and mediation, and served on the boards of the United Way and the YMCA.

At Signature Resolution, Mark’s command of personal injury and insurance disputes, his fluency with the people and pressures on both sides of the table, and his steady commitment to staying with a case until resolution is reached make him a trusted and effective resource for attorneys navigating complex, high-stakes matters.
