Biography

Angela J. Reddock-Wright is a mediator with Signature Resolution based in California and serving clients throughout the United States.  Angela has been a licensed attorney for over 30 years and a full-time neutral for nearly a decade.  Prior to becoming a full-time neutral, she was an employment and labor law litigator, and workplace and Title IX investigator.

As a neutral, Angela specializes in the broad spectrum of employment and labor law and civil rights cases, in addition to Title IX matters involving K-12 schools, colleges and universities, including cases of discrimination, harassment, sexual assault and abuse, hazing and bullying.  

She also handles complex cases, class actions, mass torts and Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) cases involving governmental entities, law enforcement, K-12 public, private and independent schools, community colleges, colleges and universities, churches and religious institutions.  In such cases, Angela is available to serve as a court appointed neutral, claims administrator, allocation neutral, and consent decree monitor for these and similar matters.  

In addition to her work as a neutral, for nearly ten years, Angela has served on the Los Angeles County Equity Oversight Panel, an independent panel of experienced attorneys, human resources and employment law professionals, who oversee and provide recommendations related to both LA County’s and the Los Angeles Sherriff’s Department’s human resources and equity investigations in accordance with the County’s policy of equity.  This is a flagship program which has been applauded by and modeled by other public agencies throughout California and around the country.  

In the past, Angela also served as a civil service hearing officer for multiple public agencies, including Los Angeles County, the City of Los Angeles, and the City of Santa Monica.  She also served as General Counsel to the City of Inglewood Civil Service Commission.

With humble beginnings growing up first in Birmingham, AL and then Compton, CA, Angela’s career contains a myriad of achievements, including being named among the Best Lawyers in the U.S., a Top California Employment Lawyer, Super Lawyer, and Top 50 Woman Attorney. She also Angela is a Fellow with the International Academy of Mediators, the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers, and the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN), and a member of the Academy of Court Appointed Neutrals (ACAN).

Angela is a graduate of UCLA School of Law, Amherst College, and the Brentwood School of Los Angeles.  She received her initial training as a mediator through the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Rick Caruso Pepperdine School of law at Pepperdine University, and through the American Arbitration Association.  She is certified in Mass Tort Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) through the Bolch Judicial Institute at Duke University School of Law, and her certification as a workplace investigator (a former role) through the Association of Workplace Investigators.

Additionally, Angela supports and gives back to the professional mediation community as a volunteer mediator with the courts and as a member of and past President of the Statewide California Mediation Association (SCMA and formerly the Southern California Mediation Association).  She also serves as adjunct faculty for the employment mediation clinic at the USC Gould School of Law.

Angela has enhanced her professional work and perspective as a former Coro Fellow in Public Affairs in Los Angeles, a business and community fellow to Israel with the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles, and as a business fellow to Europe with the German American Marshall Fund.

Angela believes that to whom much is given, much is required.  To this end, she has served in public office and as a volunteer member for numerous public and non-profit sector and bar association boards, including the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees, the Los Angeles County Bar Association Board of Trustees, the Los Angeles Urban League, Ability First, the Brentwood School of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles African American Women’s Public Policy Institute (a founding board member), the CA State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, the County of Los Angeles Small Business and Local Government Service Commissions, and the City of Los Angeles Transportation Commission.  

Angela is the author of the book, The Workplace Transformed: 7 Crucial Lessons from the Global Pandemic, a regular blogger, columnist, and contributor to the media.  She also hosts a weekly community radio show and podcast, Legal Lens with Angela Reddock-Wright on Tavis Smiley’s KBLA Talk 1580.

Her extensive history across practice areas includes:  

EMPLOYMENT
Having practiced employment law for more than thirty years, Angela has worked across the full spectrum of employment and labor law. This includes her work as an employment and labor law litigator and workplace and Title IX investigator for twenty-five years, as well as her in-house work in the capacity of general counsel and as a C-suite executive with the Los Angeles Urban League, a well-regarded nonprofit civil rights organization, where she also served as a board member.

As a litigator, Angela represented clients in all aspects of employment cases, including claims of race, sex, gender, and other forms of discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour claims.

As a workplace and Title IX investigator, Angela investigated several high-profile cases involving private, public sector, and nonprofit entities, including clients in higher education and other school entities, as well as clients in the gaming and entertainment industries. Angela is certified as a workplace investigator through the Association of Workplace Investigators. Further, her experience serving on the Los Angeles County Equity Oversight Commission for nearly ten years adds to the depth of the insights and guidance she can provide as a mediator in employment and other cases.

Angela’s in-house experience gives her a unique understanding of how organizations work from the inside out, particularly how legal and risk management issues must be balanced against maintaining employee morale, the overall business, and the other needs of the organization.

LABOR – UNIONS, CONSTRUCTION LABOR COMPLIANCE, & PROJECT LABOR AGREEMENTS
Angela is experienced in labor and construction matters involving unions, strikes, collective bargaining, labor relations, and Project Labor Agreements. She notably served as the compliance manager for the multibillion-dollar LAMP construction project at LAX, as well as co-administrator for the Project Labor Agreement for SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.

Her experience in union and labor issues also led to an opportunity to work as a consultant to the Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), assisting in updating its policies for members regarding sexual harassment claims in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

TITLE IX – SEXUAL HARASSMENT, ASSAULT, BULLYING, & HAZING
As mentioned, Angela is certified through the Association of Workplace Investigators as a workplace investigator. She has extensive experience mediating and, previously, investigating workplace and Title IX sexual assault, hazing, and bullying cases for K–12 schools, independent schools, colleges, and universities.

As a litigator, Angela handled two defining wrongful death, hazing, and personal injury cases involving leading African American sororities. She also handled the appeal in a high-profile juvenile criminal case involving a wrongful death resulting from teen bullying. As a mediator, she has similarly been engaged in high-profile racial discrimination cases in the wake of George Floyd’s death, the #BlackLivesMatter and #MeToo movements, and the rise of employee activism.

Angela served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Los Angeles Community College District, the largest community college district in the country, and has extensive experience working with the University of California (UC), California State University (CSU), and several other private colleges and universities throughout California.

MASS TORTS/CLASS ACTIONS/MDLs
Building upon her experience as a 30+ year employment and Title IX attorney, Angela has expanded her practice to include state and multidistrict litigation, mass tort, and class action cases, with a specific emphasis in the following areas: sexual abuse and other cases involving governmental entities, law enforcement, schools (including K–12 public and private independent schools, colleges, and universities), churches and religious organizations, as well as hair relaxer, social media, wildfire, and other environmental cases. Her experience includes working on the team of neutrals supporting the settlement allocation process for the Los Angeles County multibillion-dollar juvenile facility sexual abuse cases.

Angela is available to serve as a court-appointed neutral, claims administrator, allocation neutral, and consent decree monitor for these and similar matters.

Angela regularly attends and participates in continuing education opportunities within the MDL, mass tort, and class action community. She completed the Mass Tort Multidistrict Litigation Certificate Course through the Bolch Judicial Institute at Duke Law School and is a member of the Academy of Court-Appointed Neutrals.
